通过观察的外观，可初步护坡塑料模具鉴别出护坡塑料模具制品所属大类：热塑性护坡塑料模具，热固性护坡塑料模具或弹性体护坡塑料模具。一般热塑性护坡塑料模具有结晶和无定形两类。结晶性塑料外观呈半透明，乳浊状或不透明，只有在薄膜状态呈透明状，硬度从柔软到角质。无定形一般为无色，在不加添加剂时为全透明，硬度从硬于角质橡胶状。热固性护坡塑料模具通常含有填且不透料明，如不含填料时为透明。弹性体具橡胶状手感，有一定的拉伸率。
